What Wireless Networking Products Do I Need?

Setting up a wireless network in your home or office is not as difficult as it may sound. It requires very little by way of hardware, and the steps to follow are fairly simple and straight forward. This means that almost anyone can set up a home wireless network, especially considering the resources available online to help you get it right.

Before beginning your wireless network set up, you need to know what exactly your expectations are, and what you have to begin with. First you will need a broadband Internet connection. Next, before you can begin, you need to be sure you have all the wireless networking products necessary to complete the installation.

The hardware that you will need to buy is neither very expensive or complex (at least the parts you have to deal with). First of all, you need to buy a router. This is the most fundamental of the wireless networking products, as it acts as the base that sends the signals to your computers, doing away with the need for cables.

A wireless network cable is a short cable that comes with your router. This is used during the process of network set up to connect the router to the modem of your computer. This connection makes it possible for you to configure the router, which is a very important step.

A wireless network adapter may be necessary if your computer or laptop does not have wireless capabilities in it. This is true of most older computers, and even some new computers. The adapter is a card that is connected to your computer to allow it to access the signals sent from the router. For a laptop, the adapter is a PC card that is inserted into a port in your laptop.

Another wireless networking product that you may find useful is a wireless network hub. This device allows you to connect all the devices you need in one place. It links everything you need together with all the computers that are within your network. Wireless network hubs are inexpensive, easy to set up and can be very useful.

For the basic home wireless network, these are all the wireless networking products that you should need. There are others that you may find will come in handy, or possibly be necessary, such as a wireless network bridge, but in most cases, this is all the hardware you will need.

Now that you have your equipment, you are ready to start setting it up. Don't be afraid! This is a pretty easy process, and once you've finished it, you'll feel proud of your handiwork, and benefit from it for years to come! You'll probably feel up to fixing any simple problems that may arise with the network on your own, too!
