WiFi is a relatively new technology that allows for wireless networking. It is in heavy use, especially considering its new status, and has become a favorite means of accessing information and networking between computers. WiFi wireless networks seem to be popping up all over the place.

Some places you will find WiFi wireless networks are in airports, restaurants, malls and office buildings. This service is provided for customers, and it certainly makes spending time in these places more convenient. WiFi wireless networks are also set up in small businesses and homes.

The Wifi wireless network in the home environment allows for remote access to the Internet, meaning it is not necessary for the computer to be connected by cable. You can do your email, research projects or just spend time on a social network from any room in your home.

One major benefit of the WiFi wireless network, apart from being able to access the Internet from multiple locations, is that there is not the overabundance of cables running through your home, as you would find if you were to have wired access from anywhere in your home.

Through the use of a router, signals are sent through WiFi to your computer and other devices in the network. You can find a graphic on the Internet in your bedroom and have it printed out in the study without having to connect your computer. This wireless technology makes life much simpler.

If you have an older computer, you will need a wireless adapter to allow it to receive the WiFi signals from the router. For a laptop, this adapter comes in the form of a PC card that is inserted into a free slot in your computer. Your computer will automatically recognize the hardware and you can configure it on the spot.

When setting up a WiFi wireless network, it is important to remember security. You want to be sure that your network is safe from hackers who might use it for illegal purposes. There is also the threat of identity theft, which is becoming increasingly more common with more insecure networks popping up.

Once your wireless network is set up at home, you will love the freedom it gives you. You can choose where and when you want to make your online phone calls or do your email. Using the Internet and accessing other devices within your network becomes a breeze.

There is one thing to remember with WiFi wireless networks. There is a chance that the connection will be broken or damaged. Usually this is just a temporary problem, but be aware of other devices that may disrupt the signal, such as microwave ovens or cordless phones. Also, be sure you have your router in a good place, with no other obstructions around,
