If you are looking into how to wireless network, it is most likely because you have a laptop that you'd like to be able to use remotely for accessing the Internet, instead of needing to connect to a modem. If this is the case, the first thing you will need to do is to purchase the hardware that will make the wireless network installation possible.
You need to start with a broadband Internet connection. Next you need a wireless router, which acts as the base that will send the signals to your computer wirelessly. Lastly, you need to be sure that your computer has built in wireless networking support. If it doesn't, you will also need a wireless network adapter.
The first step to setup wireless network is to unplug your DSL modem in order to turn it off, but it will still be connected to the Internet. Now you connect your router to the modem.
At this point you are ready to configure your wireless router, which is not connected wirelessly to your computer. Temporarily connect your computer to an open network port on your router with the cable that came with the router. Open Internet Explorer and enter the address. The instructions will help you with the address and password.
The most important things that you will need to do to configure wireless network are to choose your wireless network name (or SSID), something specific to you. You will also give a passphrase that will be used by your router to generate keys. This needs to be long and unique (not memorized). Thirdly you need an administrative password which will allow you to change the routers settings if you need to, in the future.
Now you are ready to connect your computers! If your computer doesn't have wireless network support built in this is where you would setup your network adapter. This is easily done by following the on-screen instructions. When they are followed, your computer will confirm the wireless connection.
After following these simple steps, being sure to consult your router's instruction manual, you are ready to use your wireless network and enjoy remote Internet connection from anywhere in your home.
